Traditional Asian Snacks

They are snacks to be enjoyed with tea. Whether it’s cookies and cakes in the UK, sweet pastries in Scandinavia, or macarons in France, every culture has its own traditional tea snacks. In China, they are known as “Chaguozi”, which roughly translates as “tea fruit”, and typically consists of confectionery, nuts, and other nibbles. These treats are partly designed to enhance the tea ritual. They are also great as part of a mid-afternoon caffeine pick-me-up or to impress guests. In Asia, however, the main purpose is to aid digestion and enhance the qualities of the tea. It’s a lot like pairing food with beer or wine.

In this section, you’ll find a variety of traditional Asian snacks designed to complement tea. They include our popular Brown Sugar Bites, which are made from natural, unrefined sugar. All of our traditional snacks are natural, many are organic, and they go perfectly with a cup of tea. Strong and sweet snacks bring out the malty and sweet flavors in black tea. Fragrant snacks complement lighter green and white teas. We also have snacks that accompany dark teas in aiding with digestion.

Many of these snacks provide benefits in line with traditional Chinese medicine. As with most of our products, they are manufactured to a very high standard using the best ingredients and sourced from small producers. As a result, they are available in very limited quantities, so buy your traditional Asian snacks while you can!
