An award-winning tea master personally oversees the harvest and production of every tea in this collection. The lineup includes our signature Honey Flavor Black Tea from high-mountain gardens, Ruby Black No. 18 from the Sun Moon Lake region, and fragrant Osmanthus Black Tea. You’ll also find large-leaf cultivars such as Assam, seasonal Black Oolong blends, and limited-quantity wild-harvest black teas available when conditions allow.

Taiwan’s high elevations, abundant rainfall, and warm summer climate shape the distinctive character of its black teas. These environmental factors encourage slow leaf development, aromatic complexity, and natural sweetness. Strict harvesting standards ensure consistency, clarity, and depth in every cup.

Compared to other tea-producing regions like China and India, Taiwan is relatively young. It still has over 200 years of history to draw upon, though. It has developed numerous unique cultivars over the years, including Black Jade Taiwan Tea, developed by the Taiwan Tea Research and Experiment Station.

This Taiwan black tea has a natural sweetness with notes of cinnamon and honey, which develops as a result of native insects biting the plant and forcing it to release unique compounds as a defence mechanism. These specialized, intensive production methods mean that Black Jade Taiwan Tea is often produced in limited quantities, and can be hard to source. The same is true for many other premium black teas from Taiwan.

Taiwan also produces Sun Moon Lake Black Tea. Grown in Yuchi Township, Nantou County, it benefits from high humidity and fertile soil. The result is a rich, complex tea, with notes of mint, ripe fruit, cinnamon, and honey.

The popularity of Sun Moon Lake Black Tea supported Taiwanese tea culture during a decline in the late 20th century. It remains the jewel in Taiwan’s black tea crown, but is just one of several premium offerings from this region.

Taiwan is perhaps best known for its oolong tea, as it produces a fifth of the world’s total oolong. However, as this selection proves, it also has some excellent black tea varieties.
