Description
Duanni clay, a type of authentic Zisha clay, forms this 40-year-aged teapot from Yixing, China. Ideal for steeping Pu-erh tea for 4–6 people, you can also use it to brew other types of tea.
Duanni clay is prized by both craftspersons and tea drinkers. For the former, it’s easily workable, allowing them to craft intricate designs and precise shapes without impacting the integrity of the final piece. For the latter, it offers greater heat retention than many other teaware materials.
Despite its exceptional heat retention properties, Duanni clay is extremely porous. As a result, it absorbs some of the tea that it brews. Essentially, every time you use a Duanni Clay Teapot, you’re seasoning it like you would with a wok.
The clay also has a unique mineral composition, and this, combined with its heat retention and porous nature, helps to mute some of the more astringent flavors of tea.
