Description
This handmade Tenmoku teacup features Jianzhan-style glazing for a unique design. Crafted by our pottery master in Taiwan, it is perfect for Puerh or dark teas.
The Tenmoku style dates back to the Song Dynasty, when artisans hand-crafted pieces from the iron-rich soil in the Fujian province. Japanese monks discovered the style on a visit to Buddhist temples in China, and then took it back to Japan. In the centuries that followed, they became prized possessions in Japan. They were considered an essential part of traditional tea ceremonies.
Modern artisans use techniques passed down over generations to create traditional pieces. The high mineral composition of the clay and glaze, along with the high kiln temperatures, gives each cup a distinctive pattern and means that every piece is completely unique.
