Tibetan Brick Tea consists of many different varieties produced throughout Sichuan and Hunan. Traditionally, Sichuan Province produced the most popular brick tea known to Tibet. This occurred largely throughout the 1970s into the early 2000s before production was largely halted in the region.
Since the early 2000s, Hunan province in China produced the most Tibetan Tea in general. This Dark Tea variety known as a type of “Heicha” comes in a variety of taste and flavor palettes much like other teas such as Black or Oolong. However, like all these teas, not all are created equal and can differ in taste. Therefore, it takes a point of reference and a deep trust with Hunan tea producers to secure authentically tasting Tibetan Tea, especially in brick form.
