Introduced to Taiwan by Chinese immigrants, the tea quickly took to the region’s unique terroir. Before then, Taiwan didn’t produce green tea.
Pickers select tender young buds, with leaves rich in curly hairs known as trichomes. The leaves are minimally processed and tightly rolled to give Biluochun its unique appearance. Often said to be the only green tea from Taiwan, Biluochun is very different from other varieties.
It lacks the grassy and astringent notes typically found in green tea, but still possesses the sweetness for which green tea is known. As a result, the flavor is more akin to a cross between oolong and green tea.
Our Biluochun won a local competition in Shanlinxi, where it is grown. Our resident tea master releases it in small batches, ensuring its Gourmet-grade quality, but keeping availability very low.
To brew your Biluochun, weigh 3-5 grams, heat your water to between 158°F and 176°F, and then steep. These lower temperatures prevent the release of compounds (including tannins) that can make the tea bitter. Furthermore, compounds known for producing sweet flavors, such as amino acids, work better in lower temperatures.

Great tasting tea that is very sweet, succulent and not floral.
