With over a century of expertise, Xiaguan Tea Factory stands out for its exceptional teas. Located in Dali City, western Yunnan, it gained prominence in Chinese tea history by introducing the distinctive mushroom and tuocha pu’er teas. The factory produced these shapes as they were easier to transport on trade caravans, but it’s a shape that stuck and is now synonymous with the factory.

Our offerings include Xiaguan Tibetan Baoyan, Jia Li Tuocha, Jinsi Tuocha, Horseback Tuocha, and Xiaguan Baoyan Mushroom. These teas come in unique molds and elegant packaging, crafted using a fermentation process perfected over 50 years. This technique involves misting tea leaves with water and exposing them to hot, humid conditions. Over many months and even many years, those microbes get to work. They break down the compounds known for producing bitter and astringent flavors. The longer the tea ages, the more balanced those flavors become. Eventually, all of those bitter compounds will transform into complex, mellow ones, with a touch of natural sweetness. The fermentation process also introduces friendly bacteria, including probiotics that help to balance the gut microbiome and may provide various digestive benefits. It’s for this reason that aged, dark teas are often said to aid with digestion, with many people drinking them after a heavy meal.
