A rare, one-of-a-kind, large Zisha tea cup handmade with aged Duanni (yellow Zisha) clay. Great for Shou Puerh tea, or simply as a decorative item around one’s home, our 195ml Large Zisha Tea Cup was crafted using authentic clay from Yixing, China.

Yellow Zisha clay is a rare clay named for its unique, golden color. It’s a naturally occurring clay rich in minerals such as mica and quartz, and these provide a level of malleability that allows expert potters to craft intricate pieces that are strong and stable after firing.

The uses extend far beyond the design and visual appeal, though.

The unique mineral composition softens some of the astringent flavors of tea. They’re also great at retaining heat and can keep your brew at optimal temperatures for longer.

Finally, these tea cups are highly porous and absorb volatile oils from the brew. Over time, the oils season the cup, and you may notice slight differences in flavor with every brew. The breathable nature also releases more of the tea’s flavor and enhances the experience further.

Experts have been crafting teaware from Yixing clay for hundreds of years. Their use dates back to the Ming Dynasty, with the craft then being popularized around the 16th century.

Although they are best suited to premium Puerh tea, which releases more earthy and woody flavors once it comes into contact with the clay, you can enjoy any type of tea in our Large Zisha Tea Cup.
