To create this Fuzhuan Premium Dark Tea, farmers harvest older and coarser leaves and stems. Whereas green tea focuses on younger and more delicate leaves, Fuzhuan uses these coarser leaves to produce the optimal conditions for fermentation and aging. The leaves are then roasted in hot pans before rolling, piling, drying, and pressing, which prepares them for fermentation.
It’s during this fermentation process that the Golden Flowers form. These “flowers” are actually the spores of a beneficial fungus that transforms the tea, breaking down the sharp and astringent flavors and creating a mellow and balanced profile.
Our Fuzhuan Premium Dark Tea underwent this meticulous process over half a century ago, after which it was dry stored in Tibet. The aging process further develops the tea’s profile, removing most of the bitterness and creating a well-rounded, intensely complex brew.
This Tibetan Tea is no longer in production. As a result, it is one of the rarest Dark Teas available in the tea world. We are one of the few carriers specializing in Collector Tibetan Tea selections.
