This is an Aged Duanni Clay Tea Cup made from Medium Grade Duanni Zisha Clay in Yixing, China. Artisans engrave the Buddhist Heart Sutra on the cup. It’s a painstaking process that gives each piece meaning and adds a striking visual touch.

Often chanted in Mahayana Buddhism, the sutra speaks about the nature of emptiness. It states that all things are empty and lack permanence.

It’s an excellent collectable or decorative piece, but it’s also a practical teacup. Duanni clay is porous and breathable, but offers excellent heat retention properties. It also seasons with age, absorbing aromatic oils from every tea you pour into the cup, and gradually imparting flavors into each subsequent brew.
