Description
Oriental Beauty Tea, known as Dong Fang Mei Ren or 东方美人 in Chinese, is a gourmet Oolong produced in China and Taiwan. This 2026 selection hails from Taiwan, where a tea master hand-picks the finest leaves and then oversees the entire production process.
Oriental Beauty Tea is a medium-oxidized and non-roasted Oolong that also goes by the name “White Tip Oolong” due to its white-tipped leaves.

Oriental Beauty Tea is unique in that the oxidation process technically begins before the harvest. Insects nibble the leaves while they grow, forcing the plant to produce polyphenols as a self-defense mechanism. It kick-starts a process that ultimately gives the tea its uniquely sweet, floral, and fruity notes.
Farmers harvest the tea in the summer. Our tea master monitors oxidation levels and then determines the optimal harvest time. This is where the experience and skill of the tea master are essential.
If they harvest the tea too early, the leaves will lack the delicate sweetness and honeyed notes that make this varietal so popular. If they leave it too late, a high concentration of polyphenols will make the tea bitter.
In the end, they may deem that as much as half the harvest is not up to scratch, further limiting availability.
