Description

This is our Signature Tibetan Tea, a 1990 Dry Stored Fuzhuan known as the Perfect Dark Tea “Hei Cha“. It offers all the classic tastes of Tibetan tea, with an unmatched complexity due to a long ageing process. First harvested in the Spring of 1990, it has had years to develop, transforming the astringent flavors common in young tea into dark, earthy, nutty, and sweet notes.

  • Tea Region: Ya’an, Sichuan Province, China.
  • Season: Spring 1990.
  • Caffeine Level: Low in Caffeine Content.
  • Time of Day to Drink: Anytime, including Evenings.
  • Hand Picked Tea: Yes.
  • Forest Tea: No.
  • Tea Quality: Gourmet Tea.
  • Flavor: Dark, Earthy, and Slightly Sweet.
  • Single Origin Tea: Single Origin Tea from Sichuan.
  • Tea Steep Method: 3-5 grams steeped for 30-60 seconds.
  • Qi Strength: Medium High Balanced Qi.
  • Attributes: Rare & Aged.

Tibetan Tea has evolved over the years. Its most familiar taste originates as a Hei Cha from Ya’an in Sichuan, China. The area was previously known as a border tea town. The Sichuan factory that produced this tea has since closed down, adding to its rarity and making it a sought-after tea among aficionados and collectors alike.

Producers are constantly harvesting, preparing, storing, and ageing teas. As a result, a variety tied to a specific year may disappear, but teas of similar ages will appear in the future. That’s not the case here, though. Once it’s gone, it’s gone. There is no warehouse storing tons of tea ready to feed into the market. There is no ongoing production cycle.

It’s a one-of-a-kind that will be lost to the history books once the final gram is sold.

I was introduced to Qiful teas by a friend who had purchased a variety pack. I initially tried the light oolong tea and loved it. While I was searching the website, I was intrigued by the Tibetan tea. I purchased some and it is fantastic. It has a mild, calming flavor that cannot be over-steeped. It is a perfect treat for an afternoon tea. I will absolutely be getting more! I am thrilled to finally have a tea company where I can find high quality traditional teas! Very excited to explore some more of Qiful’s other tea options.
