The 1950s were one of the rarest times to produce Puerh tea. Following World War 2, tea farmers were largely focused on rice farming. The Wan Zi Puerh from Yiwu, China, was one exception. This rare Puerh is a collector’s Puerh for those who want a taste of Puerh history.

Sourced from the Yiwu mountains, this Wan Zi Puerh Tea began its life in 1953 when harvesters first plucked and then sun-dried the leaves. The tea was then compressed and placed in optimal storage conditions to encourage microbial fermentation.
During the aging process, the remaining moisture in the tea leaves reacts with yeasts and bacteria in the environment. The friendly little microbes transform the tannins and polyphenols. These compounds lend many teas their bitter and astringent qualities. So, as Wan Zi Puerh Tea ages, it tones down those bitter notes and creates a more rounded flavor profile.
Dry storage conditions create a longer, slower aging process, while careful wrapping and packing allow the tea to breathe.
