Gu Shu Puerh is a type of fermented tea harvested from trees that are at least a couple of hundred years old. In this case, the tree that gave us these leaves is over 3,000 years old.
Older trees grow more slowly than their younger counterparts. The tree doesn’t need to focus on survival anymore, so it can draw more minerals from the soil and create richer, fuller leaves. The root systems are also much bigger, and this, too, helps the tree to absorb more minerals.
The mineral-rich brew is surprisingly light and fragrant, but also provides a thick and full mouthfeel. It’s smooth, with a long finish and a distinctive complexity common in Gu Shu Puerh.
