Description
Lapsang Souchong is a medium to high caffeine black tea, but it has a low acidity level, so it’s also easy on the stomach. It’s smoky, malty, and woody, but also sweet, with a distinctive aroma and flavor that have made it one of the most famous teas from China’s southeastern province of Fujian.

You’ll find out old tea trees nestled in the famous Wuyi Mountains. They benefit from fresh water streams that course through the nutrient-dense red clay terrain, creating conditions unlike anywhere else.
The mountains are steep and craggy, so the tea plants get a lot of diffused sunlight. Basically, the plants get the light they need to grow, but as it’s not direct, they grow slowly and don’t produce many sharp and bitter compounds. The unique microclimate also keeps the plants stable, protecting them from extreme temperature swings.
The uniquely smoky flavors of Lapsang Souchong stem from its production process. First, pickers select mature buds and leaves. They then lay the leaves on bamboo mats inside a smokehouse, and this is where the process differs from other black teas.
During the withering process, pine is burned at the lower level of the smoke house, with the smoke then rising through the slatted bamboo mats. The smoke dries out the leaves, and they are then rolled, fired, and smoked using more pine.
The pine imparts a strong smoky aroma and flavor, and it’s this intense smoke that makes Lapsang Souchong unique.
Our third generation tea master in Wuyi has won several awards for this selection. This tea is one of the few wild-grown forest black teas to reach broader consumption.

Excellent, fairly light but great tasting tea!
Thank you, enjoy!
