This is a rare Zisha clay teacup made from Zhuni clay, a dense variety of red clay that is highly prized among tea enthusiasts and collectors alike.

It is uncommon to see teapots with handles that accommodate small brewing. After all, this is a very compact cup, at just 75ml, yet it features a surprisingly large handle. The size of the cup is ideal for drinking gourmet Puerh, as well as any Heicha variety.

Its striking vermillion color is the result of the Zhuni clay, which actually begins life as a yellow ore. Only after firing does it develop its distinctive coloring.

Not only is the clay quite rare, but it’s also very hard to work with. It can shrink by up to a quarter during the firing process. As a result, it requires a very skilled craftsperson. They must ensure the piece is the right size and that it is also strong and durable.
